Welcome to Scouting in Strasburg!
Within these pages you will find information about programs we have for boys and girls, as well as young men and women, ranging in age from 5 through 20.
“Scouting is a game with a purpose”, as described by Lord Robert Baden Powell, the founder of the Boy Scouts.
The Boy Scouts of America programs have three specific objectives, commonly referred to as the “Aims of Scouting.”
Character Development trains scouts in habits of observation, obedience, and self-reliance. We may define this as what the boy is himself: his personal qualities, his values, his outlook.
Citizenship Training instills loyalty and support of others and of their local community, learning of his obligations to other people, to the society he lives in, to the government that presides over that society.
Personal Fitness promotes self-care of their physical, mental and moral development, including the body (well-tuned and healthy), the mind (able to think and solve problems), and the emotions (self-control, courage, and self-respect).
All experiences in Girl Scouting incorporate the Discover, Connect, and Take Action keys to leadership.
Girls Discover themselves and their values and use their knowledge and skills to explore the world.
They Connect with other girls and adults.
And, they Take Action to make the world a better place.
The methods by which the aims are achieved vary by program based on the abilities of each age level. More information on each program can be found on their specific page on this website.
Scouting’s Mission Statements
The mission of the Boy Scouts of America is to prepare young people to make ethical and moral choices over their lifetimes by instilling in them the values of the Scout Oath and Law.
Girl Scouting builds girls of courage, confidence, and character, who make the world a better place.
As you can see, the Scouting programs are designed to support and augment youth development in a safe and fun environment with the ultimate goal of them going on to provide leadership within their chosen careers and communities long into adulthood.
