About Jim
Jim Evans III joined Scouting in Strasburg as a Den Leader with Cub Scout Pack 72 in 1996, where he served through both sons’ cub years. In 2000, he joined Boy Scout Troop 72 as an Assistant Scoutmaster. He took on the role of Scoutmaster in 2003, stepped back to ASM for a few years, and served as SM again from 2008 to 2012. He then transitioned to Troop Committee Member in 2013.
Jim has been an instrumental driving force for rank advancement within the troop, helping break a 19-year gap of Eagle Scout Awards earned within the community. As an avid outdoorsman, his mission of instilling the morals and values of Scouting into youth were best delivered around a campfire.
Jim lost his battle with colon cancer in May 2018 at the age of 55. His physical presence will be greatly missed, but his legacy will live on in the Spirit of Scouting, continuing to serve the youth of Strasburg for the life of the program.
